MCR1 Receiver Spy Radio
Designed during the second half of the war, the “Biscuit” was a full-range, highly sensitive,
super heterodyne receiver with 5 miniature tubes.
It was powered by a special battery, or with a separate power supply by AC/D.C. of 97 to 250 volts.
This receiver was delivered in a 2-pound “Huntley-Palmer” cookie tin which also contained 4 interchangeable coil units, 3 batteries or 2 batteries and a power supply pack, 30 feet of aerial wire and 10
feet of ground wire.
A battery provided an average of 30 hours’ reception time.
|
|
Four knobs on the same side controlled aerial adjustment, sensitivity, regeneration for telegraph reception, and the frequency dial.
Dimensions: 3˝ X 2 X 8˝ inches
Weight: About 2 pounds
Ten thousand of these sets were built and approximately half were widely distributed in the clandestine networks.
